MICHAEL CARRICK grabbed his first United goal as Alex Ferguson's Premiership leaders beat Villa for the third time in three weeks.
Ji-Sung Park's low drive and a header from new player-of-the-month Cristiano Ronaldo - his 13th goal of the season - also netted for the dominant hosts inside the first 35 minutes.
Gabriel Agbonlahor's close-range reply was nothing more than a flattering consolation.
Midfielder Carrick, an £18million buy from Tottenham, was certainly not fazed by an Old Trafford record crowd of 76,073.
But Villa, now winless for 12 games, made it easy for them with some shocking defending.
United ran the show from the off - and Henrik Larsson almost made the breakthrough in the fourth minute after being set up by Gary Neville.
The on-loan striker peeled away from his marker to power in a header that was superbly tipped away by Thomas Sorensen.
And Fergies's side took the lead seven minutes later after Gary Cahill's miskick six yards out.
Park was first to react and found the corner with his effort for his first goal of the season.
United made in 2-0 two minutes later when Carrick took a ball from Park in his stride and sent in a half-volley that went under Sorensen's body.
There was a scare for United when Agbonlahor sprung the offside trap.
He homed in on goal but Edwin van der Sar stood tall to make a good block and keep United's two-goal advantage.
United went 3-0 ahead in the 34th minute after Park won possession off Gavin McCann.
The Korea midfielder found Carrick and his cross was headed home at the far post for Ronaldo to score his 13th goal of the season.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill was left shaking his head in disbelief at a series of errors.
United were controlling the midfield and Paul Scholes released Carrick in the 43rd minute but he lofted his effort high over the bar.
A minute later Wayne Rooney should have extended their lead after good work by Ronaldo.
The England striker turned quickly on the edge of the area only to drag his effort wide of the post.
Villa reduced the deficit after 51 minutes when Agbonlahor scored from close range after a good run and cross from Milan Baros.
Rooney was putting in a hard shift with little reward and came close to finding the target after 63 minutes.

Mourinho was hopeful of adding to his squad in januaryChelsea manager Jose Mourinho's has accused the Stamford Bridge board of refusing to back him in the January transfer window.
Reports have already suggested Mourinho could leave in the summer after a fall-out with owner Roman Abramovich.
And Mourinho said: "I've identified the players that I want but they will not come. It's club reasons and I don't have to tell you why.
"I have asked for players and it's not my choice that no-one is coming.
" Mourinho was thought to be keen to bring in a defender and a forward during the transfer window.
But the outspoken boss says if he is unable to bring in any new faces then he will not allow any of his squad to depart.
He added: "The information I have is that nobody is coming and if that's the case then nobody is leaving. "It's not my club - I'm just the manager.
"I expect my squad to be the same at the end of the market as it was at the start.
" Mourinho refused to discuss his Stamford Bridge future, only saying: "My position is not important. Chelsea is what is important, not me."
Meanwhile, the Blues have suffered a blow with the news captain John Terry's return to action has been delayed by a sore calf.
The defender was expected to make his return from back surgery against Wigan at the weekend but Mourinho confirmed he will not feature.
The boss said: "John had surgery, he is recovering from that, but he is not ready yet.
"We have a lot of problems, because Ashley Cole and Claude Makelele face suspensions, and I do not see Terry back.
"There is no timescale on John.
The only thing I know for sure is that he will not play against Wigan on Saturday.
"I am not a doctor. John is not fit to train with the group.
He is not in my collective sessions yet, so he is out for the weekend."

HENRIK LARSSON'S debut goal and keeper Gabor Kiraly's stoppage-time blunder put below-par United in the fourth round.
Substitute Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw his 20-yarder squirm through Kiraly's dive - ruining Villa's afternoon of hard grafting and solid defending.
The visitors' own striking replacement, Milan Baros, seemed to have earned a replay with an equaliser that summed up the transformation he made.
But United just about deserved to go through, mainly for their large share of possession.
Larsson was quickly in the action and delivered a good ball into the area after two minutes that was headed clear by Liam Ridgewell.
United pushed forward and Ji-Sung Park's shot was deflected to safety three minutes later following a flowing move involving Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney.
Larsson then knocked the ball back to Rooney 25 yards out in the 12th minute, only for his effort to clear the bar.
Larsson was certainly looking sharp at this stage and sent a header into the arms of goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly in the 14th minute.
He came close after Cristiano Ronaldo's effort had been cleared high into the air.
A minute later and Larsson turned quickly after being released by Rooney only for Kiraly to make the save.
Rooney should have made the breakthrough in the 21st minute but sent a weak effort into Kiraly's arms after being set up by Larsson.
Kiraly then came to Villa's rescue after 30 minutes when he did well to get a hand to Rooney's effort following some trickery from Cristiano Ronaldo.
The England striker then delayed his shot a minute later after Larsson made the opening, allowing Wilfred Bouma to make a timely challenge.
Villa were again forced on the back foot in the 37th minute and Larsson looked certain to score.
While he got a sweet enough touch on the ball, Kiraly stuck out a leg and made the clearance.
United were on a roll at this stage and Larsson peeled away from his marker in stoppage time but could not get enough power on his header.
United started the second half brightly and Brown should have at least tested Kiraly in the 47th minute.
The central defender got on the end of a cross from Rooney but headed over the top from inside the six-yard box.

Arsenal produced three stylish goals as they dumped FA Cup holders Liverpool out of the competition with a stubborn and resilient third round performance.
Tomas Rosicky curled a sublime strike and squeezed in a shot from the edge of the box to put the visitors 2-0 ahead.
Liverpool hit back when Dirk Kuyt glanced in from point-blank range.
But Thierry Henry ended hopes of a Reds comeback when he robbed Jamie Carragher and slotted home to book Arsenal's place in Monday's fourth round draw.
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez:
"It is a bad day for us. It was a difficult game but we were doing well and controlling the match in the first half but conceded two goals.
"It could have been a penalty but for me it is rather the game as a whole.
"We made mistakes and when you play against a good team they punish you. Now we have to think about the next game and keep going."
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger:
"I felt we have shown character and good discipline. We were organised under pressure.
"We had two or three good chances on the break and scored one - then it was all over.
"They have an unbelievable crowd and the team gave everything. It takes a good team to beat them and we were that team."

West Ham Sign Fulham's Boa Morte
Boa Morte Has Been Linked With A Move From Fulham For Some TimeWest Ham have signed Fulham captain Luis Boa Morte for an undisclosed fee, thought to be about £5m.
The 29-year-old Portugal striker had been linked with Newcastle and Benfica, but has become Alan Curbishley's first signing since arriving at West Ham.
Boa Morte said he was not worried by the club's lowly position.
He said: "That did not put me off. "I'm confident West Ham can have a good second half to the season and we can pull ourselves out of trouble."

Neville: Confidence Still Flowing + SEE CLIPS
Gary Neville insists Manchester United remain full of confidence despite dropping two points at Newcastle on New Year's Day. The Red Devils could see their lead at the top of the Premiership cut to four points on Tuesday after claiming just a point from the trip to St James' Park.
However, Neville is buoyed by the fact that Chelsea are the side doing the chasing, rather than United, which has been the case in previous years.
"We know we are a good team and we are a lot more confident going into this year than we were the last one," he said."We are not chasing. We are confident. We feel as though we are playing well.
"We are disheartened a little bit because we have not won the game. But in years gone by, when standards were not quite so great, we would have thought of it as a decent result.
"In this day and age now, we are expected to win every game and we are disappointed not to manage that."
Neville believes United were bound to slip up at one point or another during the season but hopes it will not be a regular occurrence.
He added: "Over a 38-game championship, there are going to be occasions like this when you don't take chances and you concede a couple at a difficult place like Newcastle.
"There will be swings over the remainder of the season. We have to make more of the swings go our way than the other teams.
"It is disappointing because we want to win every match. But when we look back in a few weeks' time, we might think it is just a case of us coming to the end of a difficult period."
